What type (brand, model) of flat screen HDTV should I buy? Why?

I am looking for a reasonably priced flat screen HDTV (40+ inches) and have gotten too much information from Best Buy. This will be set on a stand and will not need to hang on the wall. I am also interested in a small surround sound package (small TV room) Can anyone help me?
Too true! I don't even know where to start. This will not be used for games, mostly movies and TV. Not sure of a price range b/c I would like to get the most for my money.
