My VCR player won’t work with my TV.?

I have a Panasonic Flat Screen tv and a Sylvania dvd/vcr combo. I hooked up the colored plugs (red, white, and yellow) into the vcr, then to the tv, but no matter what I do, it's a blank screen. No sound, no picture, nothing. I just won't work. Any ideas?
