My father purchased a Toshiba 40″ flat screen HDTV. There is no code in the manual that will enable him?

to control his DirectTV model R15100 reciever using his Toshiba remote. We contacted both Direct TV and Toshiba with no result. Does anyone know what can be done to resolve this problem? Is there a code that will allow him to use his TV remote to control his Direct TV reciever?
