Is it safe to attach a flat screen HDTV to the wall in the area over a fireplace?

There is no vent or other direct heat on the set. The question is whether just the fireplace heat will heat the wall to a degree the TV would be damaged.

We are just moving to the house, and have not run the fireplace....

It just seem to me a lot of people have put a flat screen over the fireplace mantle! Your experience are of great interest to me.
