First you need to decide which wall will be most suitable for mounting your flats screen TV on. Whilst taking seating position into consideration make sure the screen is placed at the right height whilst keeping it away from any sources of incoming light which could reflect off the screen and cause glare.

Next you will need to purchase a stud finder from your local DIY/hardware store. This is to be used for locating the position of the wooden beams behind your dry wall so that you can find a suitable place to mount your TV. This is an extremely important point as if you drill a hole directly into the dry wall and try to mount your screen on it then there is a real danger that it will come crashing down and take a large chunk of the wall with it.

Once you have found a suitable position on the wooden beam you should accurately mark it using a sharp pencil. A universal TV wall mounting bracket can be purchased from most electrical shops. Make sure that you buy one that will be suitable for your flat screen TV and will be able to carry it's weight effectively. In most cases the wall mounts will come in 2 parts: one which is mounted or screwed into the wall and the other part which should attach to the back of the screen and can then be fixed into position on the wall.

Now you are ready to mount your television. At this point you may wish to get someone to assist you as the screen may be heavy. Position the wall mounting bracket onto the wall in such a fashion that it lines up with the wooden beams behind in the wall. Carefully drill holes for the screws that will fix the wall mount. With an assistant's help lift the television screen onto the wall and then attach it safely and carefully. Before you let go completely ensure that the TV is definitely fixed securely and that the screws are driven solidly into the wooden beams.

All that is needed for you to do now is to connect up any additional components such as your cable box, DVD player and games console. If you have a few external items plugged into your television then try to keep the wires neat and tidy and out of sight if possible.
